that's how it gets a bit twisted. although I firmly believe it makes no difference in the long run (by year end), if we must correct for it, then the easy solution is to have any late entrance take the higher basis of either 12/31 or date of posting. that way, no one is advantaged by a gain post deadline, or a lower-basis rebound if the price drops.
