when they go screwing with web redirects to competing browsers, browsers which are supposed to operate largely in a shared open standards world, then something very bad and new is brewing at the Googleplex

To me, the bigger surprise is that Google Maps Mobile ever worked on Windows Phone 7.5 in the first place. If you've ever used Gmail or Google image search on a WP7.5 device, it's clear that Google doesn't think ie9 Mobile is very good, as both serve up circa 1997 WAP pages. Nothing at all like the swipeable, dynamic touch optimized web apps that Android and iOS get. It's actually more consistent for Google to skip IE support here too.
