Systems Business Unit

Business Wire - December 03, 1997 11:00

SOUTHWICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1997--

COMARK to Offer New Products

COMARK Communications' parent company, Thomcast, has acquired the "Departement Image" from the major French
telecommunications manufacturer, Matra Communication.

This acquisition brings to Thomcast and COMARK an extensive research workforce in the field of MPEG-2/DVB products
and systems. With two centers in France, located near Paris and in Rennes, the new business unit, Multimedia and Digital
Systems, will cover all activities in R&D, software and hardware products and systems aimed at providing the world market
with innovative MPEG2 products.

The new division of Thomcast has unique expertise in the area of processing and storage of MPEG2 transport streams.

This creation follows the successful launching at NAB '97 by COMARK of Comark Digital Services (CDS), providing U.S.
broadcasters with systems solutions for a smooth transition to digital television in the ATSC environment. CDS will work with
the new Thomcast group to develop products compliant with the ATSC DTV Standard, and bring these new products to the
U.S. market.

Said Patrick Desproges, Thomcast's CEO, "This acquisition is a very significant move in our strategy to offer from both sides
of the Atlantic a full range of digital solutions, not only for the broadcasting world but also for most multimedia applications
involving audio, video, data, fast internet access and telecommunications.

"All together within Thomcast, there is now a workforce of more than 100 specialists entirely devoted to digital techniques
reflecting our intensive investment in future markets."

COMARK is an Emmy award winner and recognized leader in high power UHF terrestrial broadcasting. COMARK supplied
the transmitter for the first HDTV station in the world, WHD-TV, to transmit and receive live HDTV signals using the ATSC
standard at the NBC4 facilities at WRC-TV hosting the "Model HDTV Station Project".

COMARK and Comark Digital Services are leading providers of innovative turnkey solutions in the arena of Digital Television
(DTV). Both are members of the Thomcast organization, which ranks as the largest terrestrial broadcasting product and
service organization in the world.
