180 million smartphones shipped in Q3'12 with 45% YoY growth. Assuming for the full year, 700+ million smartphones sell in 2012 (IDC had predicted 690 million at the beginning of the year and growth is running slightly ahead), that will mean a 10% market share would require 70+ million smartphone units in 2012. Based on 2012 of 45% growth, we are looking at 100+ million in 2013 for a 10% market share. That means 25+ million per quarter. So WP8 will have to sell 25+ million per quarter (from all WP8 vendors combined) in 2013 to achieve double digit 10% market share, or 12m-18m-27m-43m (with 50% QoQ growth) for Q1'13-Q4'13. Who here thinks WP8 can do that in 2013?
