Sandie,

All the big food companies really can swing that through. They would
be around 20-30 of them in all. Chicken Irradiation was endorsed long
ago but still is not preferred and Chlorine is being used by Purdue which is
Big in Chicken. They really are more worried about public opinion.
The proponents of Irradiation think that the consumer can be slapped with
an extra bill but they may be wrong in assuming that. Also these guys will
not be very competetive. It will be fairly competetive if thats done in-house
after slaughter after packaging is complete.
But again different state regulations will prevent the Radiation plants to be in
close proximity to residential/commercial areas and will receive opposition from
communities and there are more headaches involved in this than anyone can ever
dream of. Then they have to plan ahead of time what to do in case of a
leak/disaster.
These safety measures will cost a lot of $$$$'s.
O3 is not mentioned as an alternative as it is not used on such a scale but we
are gaining on that and should see more coverage in the future.
The new consultant is there to take advantage of the situation and take this
to the food-processor's and let them make their choice. i am sure you will hear
a lot of bad about radiation in the next few days because the floodgates have been
opened.

Just thoughts...

Regards,

Sri.
