They're not for overthrowing the gov't as much as keeping them
from billeting troops in your house, unreasonable search and seizure,
self-defense, militias to assist the standing Army, etc. The idea is
that people that protect themselves require a smaller Army, police force,
etc. The founding Fathers wanted to keep the cost of gov't from
becoming a monstrosity, like we have now.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them. I don't want to
be defenseless and at the mercy of criminals.

You should read the Founding Father's pamphlets, etc.
