tell me why anyone needs a shotgun?

When hunting ducks, geese, turkey and pheasant it's required by law. Also in some firearms restricted areas only shotguns with slugs are allowed.

"tell me why anyone needs a shotgun?"

Birds are damn hard to hit in flight with a rifle, plus, every time you miss, who the hell KNOWS where the bullet ends up!

Shotguns will hit the target even if your aim is a little off. As a home defense weapon, a shotgun won't blast through walls and kill people in other rooms or even other houses as a rifle or pistol might. They make a tremendous boom and scare the hell out of people.
