Anytime we try to forecast the future, unless one is clairvoyant, it is speculation/hypothesizing. I guess Peter's assertion that we are looking at triple digit growth would fall into the same category. You are correct about E-trade's problems being due to price wars - $14.95 vs. $9.99 vs. $8.00 and so on. If the quality of trade executions are similar across all the web-based brokers, I will go to the lowest priced broker. Not to the one whose banner appears on the yahoo page. If anything, with reduced margins they will be forced to cut back on advertising or reduce the rates they are willing to pay. You should be seeing this with Amazon.com, vs. Barnes & Noble, soon.
