Asha Phones with the Full Touch UI (Ashas running Series 40 Developer Platform 2.0) ...
<< Are the Asha smartphones fully HTML 5 compliant? >>
My apologies for the tardy response to your question. The new Full Touch Ashas (Asha 305 and 3050 for China, 306, 308, 309, and 311 running Series 40 Developer Platform 2.0 with the Full Touch UI and Series 40 Nokia Browser 2.0 currently at v.2.0.2.68.13), are NOT compliant with HTML 5, unlike the Symbian devices still being shipped. The new Asha browsers all use HTML 4.0, XHTML 1.1, XHTML Basic, and the XHTML Mobile Profile.
In 2005 Nokia was, btw, the first company to port open-source WebKit to a mobile device and all Symbian S60 devices from all Symbian owners and manufacturers utilized the S60 browser. The Nokia WebKit browser for the original Nokia Symbian ^3 devices (before upgrades to Anna and then Belle) utilized HTML 4.1 but basic HTML 5 was introduced in Symbian S^3 Anna with the Nokia 7.3 browser and several additional HTML 5 API/UI elements were expanded and introduced in the Nokia 7.4 WebKit browser used in S^3 Belle.
Nokia's proprietary Series 40 RTOS based feature phone platform was an exceptional and immensely successful platform. It was the most widely deployed and profitable feature phone platform on the globe, but under OPK no development effort by Nokia was made to evolve it. Elop changed that and its evolution became the foundation for the second pillar (connecting the next billion) of Nokia's 3 pronged product strategy. That evolution is ongoing but the tardy arrival of Full Touch Ashas was undoubtedly at least part of the reason for the replacement of Mary T. McDowell by 17 year Nokia vet Timo Toikkanen with his extensive experience in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, as head of the Mobile Phones segment of Nokia Devices and Services.
Nokia no longer uses Series 30 for entry level phones. It has been replaced by Series 40 6E (6th Edition) in 1 Series products like the Nokia 109, 110, 111, and 112.
Nokia's Asha Range of 'smarter' feature phones based on Series 40 Developer Platform 1.1 (DP 1.1) with several (finally) featuring dual SIM capabilities and some with QWERTY keyboards, were 1st introduced in October 2011 and include the Asha 200, 201, 202, 203, 205, 206, 300, 301, 302, and 303.
As stated above the newest Ashas 1st announced in June 2012 (Asha 305, 306 311) and subsequently in late September (Asha 309/3090 in China, 308/3090 in China) run Series 40 DP 2.0 with the Full Touch UI and S40 Nokia Browser 2.0.2 which incorporates HTML 4.0.

When he deflected questions about Android plans in Nokia's future I took Stephen Elop' comments in his late December interview with Gizmodo Spain's Manuel Ángel Méndez to be a clear signal that there is most likely active research and HTML 5 research and development going on under Nokia CTO Henry Tirri, some of which will likely be incorporated into the Series 40 Browser as bit evolves but could also relate to the 3rd pillar (future disruption) of Nokia's product strategy:

"[Q: Do you rule out 100% launching a device, a smartphone based on Android next year?] The way I think about it is, the current war of ecosystems, we are fighting with Windows Phone. That´s what we are doing. Now, what we are always doing is, how does that evolve?, what comes next? What role does HTML 5 play? What role does Android or other things play in the future? We´ll look further into the future, but in terms of what we are bringing into the market and what we are immediately focused on, we are focused on Windows Phone. ... [Q: But there are things like Firefox OS, HTLM 5, as you mention. Is it that you don´t rule out any change [in the choice of platform]? If things change, you don´t rule out to change as well?] The thing to know is that, some of the changes that are happening, like HTML 5, what that may cause to happen is that, whether is Android or Windows Phone or other things underneath, over time might become less important than the fact that is HTML 5 capable. The promise of HTML 5 is that you can build applications that work across different platforms, so the conversation may shift. At the same time, HTML 5 is not in a position today to be the big ecosystem… it´s still very early." - Stephen Elop -

BTW: I think you are doing a very commendable job of anchoring discussions on the original SI Nokia board which serves as a complement to this one (or vice versa) and constructively helping to revitalize it.
