CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR) has awarded Alydaar Software Corporation (NASDAQ:ALYD) a Year 2000 contract. The contract calls for Alydaar to remediate Whirlpool's legacy system code at its Charlotte, NC Year 2000 factory. Terms of contract are undisclosed. The Year 2000 problem arises from computer programs written in the 1970s and 1980s that read only the last two digits in a year. The 00 reading for 2000 would cause an error in some programs or could be interpreted as 1900. The world-wide cost to repair the Year 2000 problem is estimated to be in excess of $600 billion. Robert Gruder, Alydaar's CEO, stated: "Working with Whirlpool has been a pleasure thus far. Whirlpool has shown the knowledge and the dedication to achieve it's Year 2000 goals on schedule." Jay Carrick, Whirlpool's Year 2000 Project Manager, stated: "Whirlpool has established its Year 2000 direction and plans. We believe Alydaar's remediation process will complement our process and assist us in getting the job done in a timely and reliable manner." Whirlpool Corporation is the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances.
