Re the discussion on banner ads, etc.: IMHO, the future of advertising on the web, and the big dollars, will be the inclusion of inserts in streaming downloads. Why all the push for bandwidth to the consumer? It's an effective way to deliver content rich advertising. As cable modems become the order of the day, there will be more utilization of products like MediaOne's (UMG) Streamcast offering. They have a server(s), a national backbone, and software that allows anyone to easily edit and store video clips on your web site. What does that mean? I get my news from, say, a CNN web site, click on a story of interest, and I get a streaming video clip with an advertisement inserted. CNN can count the hits for their advertisers. Is Yahoo! or AOL relevant in this scenario? Ask yourself who is providing the broadband access. Hint: go to mediaone.com and poke around in the Streamcast frame. If you've got broadband access already (you lucky dog), check out the NECN news site, you can get those news clips today, among other sites.
