Oh hell......the usual American pep talk by the 'responsible' rich parent to their progeny. Big frigging deal. Tell your kids that those of us born to the lower and middle classes don't have a choice in the matter.

You know why I have a choice in the matter of whether my kids work or not? Because I busted my ass my whole life and amassed a considerable amount of money, from hard work. The government didn't give me a dime. And you know what else? I had to borrow a shitload of money to go to college and I had to work between 25-30 hours per week in college, while carrying a full course load. I had to pay for both of my masters degrees as well. I had to pay for everything through hard work, sweat, and tears. My father had to do the same, you know why? Because he was an immigrant and came to the US with nothing. The main thing he instilled in me was the value of hard work. Thanks to him, I made it. My kids will make it too, not because I leave them anything, but because they will learn to stand on their own and not look for handouts and free shit from the government.

So I don't need to tell my kids anything about being born to lower and middle classes. They know where my father and I came from. I'm making damned sure that they don't grow up feeling entitled to free shit from anyone, least of all me.

So right back at you. If more people believed in hard work instead of free shit, we wouldn't be spending $1.2 trillion per year more than we raise in taxes and we wouldn't be printing dollars hoping that it doesn't destroy our currency. An entitlement society breeds profligacy and incompetence, and yes, laziness. I can see it all around me.
