Vinot: Three years is an eternity.... <Hello Fred....Compaq is a Banyan Vines shop. I visited their Houston plant and offices three years ago. They were happy with Banyan as their lead O/S on the server. I don't believe that they switched over to NetWare or at least I did not hear about it.> Suggest you update your references. My consulting contacts that install SAP all over the place recently informed me over Thanksgiving that Compaq is using and pushing 100% Novell on the server. As for NDS, I would say migrations to 4.11 - that bundle it in for free - are going very well. There are huge benefits to migrating NOW. Here's a very basic yet very powerful example: How do you synchronize clocks on netswork of NT servers??? Answer: get into each server separately or have each server log into fed's naval atomic clock remotely.....Novel's solution, thanks to NDS - the NDS server/administrator logs into the atomic clock and then update all clocks across the network instantaneously. How about 2 & 3 dimension tracking of rights, passwords and access codes as more and more servers with different applications grow on the corporate network. An almost impossible taks using NT today, but NDS with basic additional software tools - already in place alongside - make administering this a one-person show. In the NT world today, you have roving teams of administrators doing nothing but password security maintenance work just to keep the thing going. Setting up VPN's on 4.11 - already a BIG ISP market is developing out there - check out Pilot in Alemeda CA and ANS. ISP see huge benefits pushing Novell's new line of products, from BoarderManager on down. It allows them to increase processing bandwidth by a factor of 3-4 times NOW - not later. As for your "raging NT" comment - please Vinod. Let's get real. NT has the momemtum, but apart from your Ford and MCI example, many companies are deploying NT for none-core areas - application servers period. There is a huge installed base of enterprise systems that use and deploy other NOS's for a reason - security, scalability, speed, etc. Sure the MS has many Trojan horses - MS Office, Exchange, etc. - but talks I've been having with users are very upbeat about using and deploying more NDS functionality while they look forward to upgrading to MOAB. Many people complain about IntraNetware's lack of remote access. I would recommend that people check out the success of NetwareConnect software. I hope they bundle this into Moab. Cubix and Novell are running circles around NT networks in the remote access category. The Novell's Platinum resellers I talk to are looking forward to '98 with great anticipation as they take advantage of Novell's technology and market time advantage. Let's give Schmidt time to execute. Ahh, I can hear Joe sigh the big one! Good luck!
