Every couple of years, I go back through the development of 'enlightenment' philosophy. The people who developed and fought for an America, understood 'enlightenment' perspective. I don't find very many people in modern times who do, even though most have been forced to study it as children.

We absolutely must trust each other to correct and direct the government. Any government authority seeking to subdue us for any reason is not to be trusted. The people are not a threat to the government, quite to the contrary, the government is and always has posed a threat, which must be guarded, for the government to be a positive and effective entity. Even though the nature of man is "nasty, brutal, and cruel," the "continuity of consciousness" to the greater humanity does provide for the mutual assurances of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"; where, "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" must be protected. The social authority would and will take that protection away at the very first opportunity... always has and always will, given the chance.

A lot of smart people have believed it over the same years, and a lot people who didn't understand it ended up in places no one would want to be.

It is amazing to me how naive you are on this issue.

not amazing at all........in fact.... entirely consistent with his naive beliefs on a host of issues.

We are one unfortunate illness on the Supreme Court away from effectively losing the right to bear arms.
