I keep trying to push the notion of "trust the people," an enlightenment perspective. I might be missing something here because of the extreme polarization of consciousness. The term, "the people" might mean very different things to each extreme. Its what happens in war. When we are able to objectify the enemy we have no problem mowing them down indiscriminately. I hope we aren't coming to that sort of attitude in our domestic politics. There is plenty of room for rational discussion among people of good will, though such people are becoming harder to find. One thing is for sure, "just trust the government" is a very wrong headed idea.
