Last year there were less than 100 murders by gun in Britain vs. over 11,000 in the U.S.

That is a ridiculous comparison. It is like comparing Rhode Island to California without adjusting for population.

Here is what you need to know about Europe.
Virtually every Swiss household has firearms. One of those guns is government issue.

At 0.7 per hundred thousand, the Swiss have one of the lowest murder rates in the world.
Compare the government mandated arming of Swiss citizens to the US murder rate of 4.7 per hundred thousand.

Better yet, compare the armed Swiss to Greenland. Then compare Greenland to Chicago.
In 1992, Greenland enacted laws similar to what is being proposed here -

In Greenland, only licensed gun owners may lawfully acquire, possess or transfer a firearm or ammunition
Gun Owner Background Checks
An applicant for a firearm licence in Greenland must pass background checks which consider criminal and relationship records

The 2011 murder rate in Greenland was 19.7 per hundred thousand. That is 28x higher than Switzerland. BUT GET THIS - Gun-controlled Greenland's murder rate is a mirror image of gun-controlled Chicago's murder rate

CHICAGO has 2,700,000 gun-controlled people. Chicago had 513 murders in 2012.
Like Greenland that is 19 per hundred thousand.

Money must play a role here. I wonder if the most avid gun control freaks are heavily invested in funeral parlors and heavily short gun manufacturers.
