I sometimes wonder if the "Austerity Now" crowd are just economic illiterates that don't have a good grasp on the history of the 1930's or whether they know full well what they are doing and their goal is to decimate the middle class and drive us into a deflationary spiral. After all deflation is the best outcome for the creditor class, just as inflation is the best friend of debtors. It really comes down to class warfare over who takes the hit on the massive debt overhang, the creditors (via inflation) or the debtors (via deflation).
