AMSTERDAM (AFX-NL) - Philips Electronics NV expects sales of digital video disc players to equal 0.5-1 mln units this year, according to Philips' official information page on Dutch television news service Teletekst.

Sales will be exclusively outside Europe, where DVD players will not be introduced until next year, it said.

The DVD system was launched in Japan late last year, followed by the March introduction in the U.S., where 200,000 players have been sold to date and 500 titles are available on DVD , Philips said.

It predicted a promising start for DVD players in Europe.
