BARNSTABLE — A Newton man has been convicted of killing a Framingham man in his Cape Cod vacation home.

Robert Upton was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder for the September 2009 shooting of 47-year-old Aris Manoloules in his Hyannis home after about six hours of deliberations.

Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Upton, the victim's brother-in-law, was offered $165,000 by other members of the family. The victim's nephew still faces trial. The victim's brother has been acquitted. Prosecutors have said there was bad blood in the family over a multimillion dollar inheritance. The murder weapon was found in Upton's girlfriend's home.

Upton is scheduled to be sentenced Friday. A first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no parole.

Upton's lawyer called the case "an unfortunate set of circumstances."
