Realistically, it will take several years to come up with any cogent policy (and more likely, several iterations of absurd policy as precursors). And even then, it will be exceedingly difficult to control over the long term.

You really can't forecast these things out for fifty years, but if you did, you would have to expect that derivatives of these technologies would be routinely working with material on molecular or sub-molecular level. The idea that government is going to be able to control its use seems silly to me.

I wish I could be around for it, just to watch.
