Yeah, they are dropping price. But lasers rated in the hundreds of watts are going to be expensive, no matter what. Even VSCELs. Cooling is an issue. Diode lasers are pretty efficient, but still only about 30% or so. And then there is the power supply. Assuming you can do it with a 100 watt laser. You probably need closer to a kilowatt, but...

Voltage to a VCSEL is at a max of around 2 volts. So that means our 100 watt laser needs more than 166 amps. And it needs to be a constant current supply.
