Interesting. Dediu's analysis assumes that iTunes' reported revenue does not include Apps sales, yet Apple's q4 earnings lists Apps as a contributer to iTunes' record $2.1 billion dollar quarter. This changes his interpretation somewhat (and means App sales generate roughly the same revenue as media sales). seekingalpha.com Regardless, for Apple to be operating a $8 billion dollar operation as break even implies operating costs of $2.7 billion dollars. The advertisement budget shouldn't move the needle :).
