He told reporters during a question and answer session after making his first speech as a member of the central banks’ policymakers that he was concerned wages may rise too quickly to make up for salaries being put on hold in recent years and that this could cause inflation to rise.

He said: "I hear this frequently when talking with companies, and from the tone of the conversations, it is not clear that such wage increases would be purely limited to increases in productivity, and might well be more 'generous' to make up for the experience of recent years."
