Yes, there have been defections. But it has never been more than a small minority. Betting on more than that to back an insurrection is not a good bet.

Note my use of "significant number".

There is no legal way for Texas to leave. And there are a significant number of Texans who would object. Like an extremely large majority, but I haven't taken a poll. No one I know would be interested in that, but we do have our share of nutballs.

As to the red state/blue state thing...

Texas is one of the few red states which pays more in taxes than it gets back in federal aid. So yeah, the blue states would be more wealthy without the red states, bar Texas.
