I have the same problem with him that I have with Ansel Adams: so cool, you were there and showed me a splendid picture of it. Why should I care and where is my t-shirt?

Pretty pictures don't really cut the mustard for me - though like all of us photogs I'm guilty of making them all the time - what truly does cut it for me is incongruity.

One part of the image saying one thing, the other contradicting it. That gets my dreams spiraling upwards...

Rented the Canon 1D Mark IV for the gig last night, to make up for the dead 1D Mark III that has to go to the factory to get fixed. (Too important a gig, NYT and WSJ may want some pix, among others.)

One word: WOW!

1. VASTLY sharper with my pre-existing, pre-digital 70-200, F/2.8 zoom. Unreal!
2. I've NEVER had jpegs come out of a camera, that I didn't have to alter, color wise - at least a little bit - in Photoshop. I didn't have to touch the color on these files, at all!

Downers? Yeah, but not really:

1. It tends to overexpose in Auto, a LOT. Easy fix, dial it down a stop and a half.
2. The noise is about the same as from my 1D Mark III - at the same IOS - for all practical purposes.

Conclusion?

They sell for under $3k now - occasionally - on eBay. Thinking about it. Seriously!
