People with new ideas and talent should be given their due. I totally agree that innovation in America comes from novel thinking - most innovations come from people in their 20's - all of the great physicists of the early 20th century were at their peak in their late 20's and early 30's but contributed to be productive for a lifetime . One of the attractions of my new job was that the workforce was 15 years younger than the people I had previously worked with. There is a vitality in youth - but it is not JUST in youth, however it is concentrated there. Crotchetiness seems to be a lurking hazard for the aging - and I try to be vigilant for the "you kids get off my lawn" mentality in my own thoughts.

There are a SI posters that have undue pride in their thoughts. Objectively, the value of those posts is probably rather meager and I'll find other things to do if they want me to pay for the privilege.
