>> Here we are some 3 decades later and we finally gotten to the point of being able to shoot down a single ICBM. No way we are anywhere close to shooting down a mass attack like the goal is. Will we be able to able to do that in another 30 years? No way of telling. Especially in the light of all you need is about 3 going off at the edge of the atmosphere. The result EMP will for all intents and purposes destroy the country.

No one said it would be easy. But the program was an astounding success for the relatively small investment and considering the funding cuts which, had they not been made, would have had us much farther along at this time. But the essential purpose -- ending the Cold War and reducing the threat of nuclear war which liberals were pissing themselves about -- was attained. Not to mention the offshoots of the program which have resulted in technologies like Patriot and subsequently, Israel's extremely successful Iron Dome (a portion of the technology from which was taken from Patriot).

The important point is that while Sagan was saying, "it is impossible" you're now saying, "Well, it MIGHT be possible." Of course it is possible; if you can do it once you can do it a thousand times.

>> And it doesn't stop proliferation. ICBMs are not the only delivery system.

SDI did more to reduce proliferation than ANYTHING has. Perhaps not the only delivery system, but it was the most feared and most feasible delivery system until Reagan effectively neutralized it.

At some point you just have to go on and admit it -- you've been wrong on this subject for 30 years.
