Alley Oop passes extend the end zone by 3-5 yards, and the Patriots were tackling - in the end zone. Twice. They were outplayed.

Plus the fumble.

They quit. You could see it clearly after Welker dropped that pass. It was a poorly played and coached game by the Patriots.
