Probably because so much investor money plowed there from all over the world. But beyond the bump to RE prices and activities related to the purchase and remodel most of these people are well off and setting up some roots even businesses in the area. Also lots of purchasing power that the local establishments love.

But in addition, Phoenix has experienced strong employment growth and a fairly low unemployment rate compared to Vegas or FL. The claim was that Phoenix grew employment primarily because of the housing market......construction jobs. However, there is little construction now and yet job growth is still strong.
