You are still making an awful lot of assumptions based on little or no information. She routinely left him alone in the house and went on mini-vacations. And, in fact, had done it recently. If she was so afraid of him, why would she do that?

Hi Wayners; It's hard to imagine that the average person would leave working guns where they knew that a disturbed person could get a hold of them but I've seen that sort of thing go on. I myself would be inclined to simply remove the firing pins, but if I knew the disturbed person had some mechanical ability I'd go further. Recognizing a missing firing pin (when it's not stored near the weapon) and correctly installing it is beyond a lot of people's mechanical ability.
