You've been on this site long enough to know that there have been several attempts to generate revenues. Some have tried to turn a profit and failed and others didn't expect to turn a profit and instead ran it as a hobby.

Brad obviously got something out of running the site. But it is clear that it wasn't profit. The fact that you are taking issue that I used the word benevolence when Brad obviously had his own self interests being served is really quite amusing and misses the point.

You actually do seem to get the point later when you acknowledge that Brad has a right to no longer be interested in running the site as a hobby and that the new owner has every right to try to run it for a profit.

Where you again miss the point is that I was addressing the members who object to the above. What it reflects is a sense of entitlement by many here. This sense of entitlement exists all over the internet with things like "the music wants to be free" and the refusal by people to pay for services and content provided on the internet.

The simple fact is, SI is a great platform. It is also a great community. But it didn't have enough value for the user base to pay for the service through memberships or advertising when those were on the table. It also didn't have large numbers of new members joining on a regular basis. That means that the owners either needed to provide more value, run it as a hobby or shut it down (or sell it).

If you don't get that....sorry. The chasm will be simply too far to cross.
