Yes, Verizon can't be happy. It's surprising to me that the mix is shifting downmarket. I would have thought that the delta between the 5 and the 4 (LTE) is bigger than the delta between the 4S and the 3GS (retina display). Then again, that's from years of frustration with CDMA's pathetic excuse for 3G :).

Just thinking my way through the numbers...if Verizon was only selling about a million 5s/month in the launch quarter, is it possible the 5 wasn't even the top single model smartphone at Verizon this past Q? What's the S3 run rate these days?

Slacker,

Verizon cant be happy. They are doing everything they can to promote their LTE handsets and the 4/4S grab 1/3 of their smartphone business.
Anecdotal story

My wife and I had gone into a Verizon store to look at plans related to smartphones just after the iPhone 5 was announced. The interesting thing was how hard the Verizon salesman pushed the 4S as a way to get into an iPhone for no cost with a 2 year contract. He had sold an iPhone 4S to the customer before us with just that type of plan, no money for the phone with a 2 year contract. Maybe this was a corporate strategy to try to get iPhone customers to come to Verizon, especially since up to now, iPhone customers have been repeat customers more that with any other brand of phone.

I don't know if other stores were doing the same thing or if they were doing this because iPhone 5 supplies were limited but I did find this rather interesting.
