I dunno, slack, leaving a couple of bucks worth of components out of the mix and suddenly being able to sell an otherwise functionally equivalent phone for half the price, hundreds of dollars less - I really don't think that would play well at all. I get that avoiding cannibalization is technically possible - I just don't think it'll be worth the public flogging that would rain down on the company. If it's possible to profitably make a $299 iPhone, it really needs to be available (or at least usable) "worldwide", IMO.
