In these days of data mining and cyberstalking where all the details of one's past and present can be discovered online for $35, it makes absolutely no sense to use one's real name in online forums. Personal privacy is far more important than cyber civility.

The next step in that line of thinking is recognizing that eventually, whether in two years or twenty, every post you have ever made under an alias will probably become associated with your actual identity. Fingerprints have been left at the scene. Online anonymity is an illusion.
