Well, just remember that they don't make any money if everyone
just buys and holds. Their major profit center is *their own*
trading desk if they're like most brokerages. Commissions from
customer trades are usually secondary. Both ways though they
make money when stocks go up or down, not when they hold steady.

If you have enough cash and nerves of titanium, and you get the
newswire feeds and NASDAQ Level 2 and can execute trades real fast, and are willing to spend 10 full hours a day on it, you might make a lot of money following the short-term trends, otherwise ...
