> I've also been pointing out that SJ was clueless on this (he who was famous for saying you don't want to consult customers about what they want, you need to tell them what they should buy) and that as a result Apple is a bit screwed until they can admit that Saint Steve was out to lunch on the topic.

Steve was right about it AND wrong.

He certainly understood that a touch screen was the future. I (toot toot) predicted the first iPhone would have a touch screen, and most here thought no, finger prints!!! too small won't work. But Jobs was right. He was also right on touch screen tablets.

I agree and have also said that tablets and phones are going to merge in the middle, they are a continuum. In fact my prediction for the iPad was a streched iPhone:

Yup Apple made a mistake not having a smaller pad - but they've definitely solved THAT problem. Lets hope they solve the problem of a larger phone.

Interesting. You have 3 FAB companies AMD, INTC, NVDA

and 1 DESIGN company partially owned by Apple, ARMH. It makes no chips, it just designs them I believe.

This illustrates the fundamentally mistaken mental picture people have of Apple, its not a technology company, its a design company.

All things in design have their time.

I'm pretty convinced that one day Apple will start selling LiquidMetal phones. When they do they will be unmatchable by competitors. I think Apple will continue to evolve great products for some time.

And one last thing, Apple had a very good quarter. They did not "miss." They did not have trouble having their best quarter ever. They did have some troubles, but I'm sure those will be ironed out.

Other than the larger phone. I hope they are not stubborn on that issue. It seems a no brainer. They capitulated on the smaller tablet and its a howling success, hopefully they will capitulate on the larger phone too.

Good to see another "early adopter" of thought. My thread on the topic was initiated when my wife decided to upgrade her iPhone 3GS to a Galax S3. I thought for sure she'd just want the iPhone5, but saw and wanted "the bigger screen". I started asking around those at work with one, and they all had various reasons for choosing it, but all said the bigger screen was high on the desirable list.

I think the main device we'll all use is the biggest one we'll carry around with us and put up to our ear. For headset users, it's the biggest device they'll carry around with them all day.

10" iPads are great for around the house and at work, but for carrying around everywhere, and as a phone, I think you're very close to the ideal.
