Because when the country was founded, it was an convenient way to do things. But, it is subject to abuse by gerrymandering. This is an old problem, but the Republicans have really abused the system by pushing as many Democrats as possible into the smallest number of districts they can. So instead of being compact divisions, they look more like fractal patterns.And they have admitted doing it to make sure they win, despite what the majority of voters want. Now I understand that the Right is disenchanted with democracy. Y'all seem to feel that any means to impose your beliefs on the country is fair game. Fascists do think that way...
