The problem is finding those headlines in the last ten years.

February 1997
Web of the month
by Derek Gordon

Excerpts

"Silicon Investor (SI) is a terrific one-stop high-tech emporium. Investors can stock up on timely performance data and other useful stats on nearly 500 technology companies, ranging from behemoths like $20 billion Intel to tiny start-ups like $37 million software maker Consilium."

"SI also runs a so-called chat forum, where active tech investors share their usually well-informed views about the prospects for specific companies and the tech sector overall."

Excerpts

"The hottest site on the Web today is Techstocks.com. Its creators offer everything you could want to know before you invest in those Silicon Valley start-ups."

"At techstocks.com you can view the thinking of thousands of individual investors. Advisors who actively manage investments (clients' as well as their own) will find that this site gives them an edge over the quantity of other technology-related investment information currently saturating the Web."

"Techstocks.com is the hottest thing since, well, technology stocks."

The question, would you rather try and revive a site that was at the top of the list back in the 90's, or a site that was unknown?

The answer is obvious.

There's a long list of public companies that over the years have changed their names to reflect a change in their business model. Product lines change, divisions are sold, and mergers take place are just a few of the reasons a name change might take place. It may seem a little strange at first but before long people get use to it and move on. If the focus on SI is going to remain on investment forums and nothing big is going to change then I agree there is no need for a name change.

After we got the t-shirts I e-mailed a friend with a link and told him it would be a good time to become a member here. I pointed out that some of the better forums are non-investment related and it was FREE and you got a FREE t-shirt. He said he would look into it but never mentioned it again. I don't think he felt like he would need to be a member of an investment site and probably didn't give it a second thought. If you can't give something away thats free and gets free stuff you may have a problem.

I think we are all guessing about changes and whether or not the site may have a money problem one day. It was great here during the big stock bubble. I remember when the CYMI thread might get a hundred posts in a day. Now it has doubled on takeover talk and hardly gets a post a month.
