East Asia resumes exploration at Miwah

2013-01-28 07:50 ET - News Release

Mr. Edward Rochette reports

EAST ASIA MINERALS CORPORATION RESTARTS EXPLORATION PROGRAM AT ITS MIWAH GOLD PROJECT IN INDONESIA

East Asia Minerals Corp. is restarting exploration at its Miwah project located in Aceh province of Indonesia. The Company announced on January 8, 2013, that it has received extensions of its licences (IUPs) at Miwah until November 30, 2014.

East Asia Minerals project geologists will begin with the onsite compilation of detailed geological and geotechnical field maps of the three Miwah IUPs and the Tangse IUP. These field maps will be evaluated and interpreted with the aim of providing mineralization extension targets both along strike and down dip at Miwah and initial scouting drill hole targets at Tangse. The new targets generated by the interpretation of this mapping shall be added to the 12,000 metres of drilling planned in the 2013 drilling program at the Miwah Project.

"We are very pleased to resume exploration at Miwah," said Ed Rochette, CEO of East Asia Minerals. "While we have previously identified a significant resource here, there were still several areas that required follow-up. This new exploration will help us understand the extent of the mineralization and the potential of further drilling to add to the resource base."

The Company is also working with several levels of government to change the forestry classification at parts of the Miwah Project. The Tangse IUP is not subject to any forestry classification restrictions.

Miwah is an epithermal gold project located on the northern tip of Sumatra Island in the province of Aceh in Indonesia. In May 2011, the Company completed an NI 43-101 technical report on the property, which identified an Inferred Resource of 3.14 million ounces of gold and 8.95 million ounces of silver in near and at surface mineralization. The resource estimate was made using a 0.20 grams per tonne gold cut-off and an estimated 103.9 million tonne resource averaging 0.94 grams per tonne of gold and 2.68 grams per tonne of silver.

EAS... East Asia eager for Indonesian gov't to open up forest 2013-04-16 05:11 MT - News Release

Mr. Edward Rochette reports

EAST ASIA MINERALS' MIWAH GOLD PROJECT CLOSER TO RECLASSIFICATION IN ACEH, INDONESIA

East Asia Minerals Corp. has provided an update on Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry which is close to accepting a proposal to open 1.2 million hectares of forest in Aceh province for mining, logging and palm oil production.

"We are very pleased with the recent news from the Indonesian government. These new developments are good progress and positive news for mineral extraction in the area. This will help us realize the full value of our Miwah gold project in Aceh with a NI 43-101-compliant resource of 3.1 million ounces of gold," said Edward Rochette, chief executive officer of East Asia Minerals.

Tgk. Anwar, the chairman of the Aceh government's spatial planning committee, claimed that the Ministry of Forestry has accepted "almost 100 per cent" of the province's new spatial plan, which would zone large blocks of previously protected forest for mineral extraction, timber concessions, and oil palm plantations. Aceh has the most forest cover of any province in Sumatra, which lost 36 per cent of its forests in the past 20 years. The new spatial plan would grant nearly one million hectares of land for mining, 416,086 for logging and 256,250 hectares for palm oil. The plan would also approve an extensive new network of roads that would run through protected forests.

The company is working closely with government officials in the country and have company representatives on the ground in Aceh to obtain reclassification of the forestry zone from "protected forest" to "production forest." East Asia Minerals has implemented a new corporate social responsibility program and hired ex-government officials to help them with these efforts. Extensions on Miwah IUP mining business licences are in place until Nov. 30, 2014. The company is undergoing a valuation study to define its current status and options on reclassification. The nature of the orebody and the limited scope of the valuation study preclude this assessment. Once forestry designation has been reclassified, the company will be granted the ability to continue the drilling program with the goal of expanding the resource at Miwah. While waiting for reclassification, the company will be able to assess mineralization and prepare East Asia Minerals to conduct a feasibility study. Miwah is not currently included in this reclassification. The length of this process is primarily due to dealing with a coalition of environmental groups and NGOs.

Frank Rocca, AusIMM, vice-president exploration of the company, and a qualified person under National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information in this press release.
