I would say the great bulk of analysts and industry pundits and even the designers at OEMs would agree with you. But I've been pointing out for a year + why I think that is wrong, and finally the industry is seeing the change (all IMHO of course).

The mobile revolution is built on the notion of mobile. So the appeal of easily carrying your personal computing device should be clear to everyone now. But just look at how long Wintel was in denial about mobile impacting PCs. It just wasn't going to happen because they were so different. Nobody was going to replace a PC with a mobile gadget. God forbid. Oops, what happened, why are PC sales sucking and mobile booming? Surely something is a little off here?

Sticking my neck out a bit, the same dynamic with analysts and pundits and the OEMs will play out with phablets: From denial that they were even desirable (Steve Jobs and perhaps Ivy??) to claims they were just to ridiculous and only strange people would use them, to oops, it seems like they are taking over, how did this happen??

There will always be some people who don't mind hopping between devices at each stage of their day. I just think that will end up being a minority rather than the majority. The key will be to watch teens and young adults. Don't watch geezers, they aren't a good leading indicator.

It will never be one size fits all and Apple will never follow those sheep.

Couldn't agree more, Annie! If a mobile phone doesn't fit in my jeans pocket (and I'm talking 501s) along with my keys, it's DOA as far as I'm concerned. I don't care if the thing irons the laundry and mows the lawn, I ain't buying it.
