chartseer..."Okay barry is from sunni lineage from paternal and adopted fathers. What is farrakhan? Sunni too!"....

Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, however, is anything but mainstream Islam (even though Iranian president A’jad must have thought enough of him to make a special personal appointment last time he was here for the Sep 2010 UN General Assembly opening). Yes, apparently these two very odd ducks have found a meeting of the minds on the issue of the 12th Imam, even though Farrakhan and Nation of Islam are supposedly Sunni.

That Farrakhan and A’jad should find common ground cannot be a good thing, especially when the Farrakhan linkages to the current occupant of the White House are acknowledged. The Obamas’ long-time pastor, Jeremiah Wright, not only enjoyed a close relationship with Louis Farrakhan, but even accompanied him on a 1984 trip to visit Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi. And although Obama himself scurried to distance himself from Farrakhan during his 2008 campaign (and later from Wright as well), there were many years when those connections were not considered problematic for Obama. Add to that the fact that Obama was born and raised a Muslim through his childhood and only apparently ceased to practice Islam around the age of 11 or 12 when he came to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents, and that he was photographed at a personal, closed-door meeting in Detroit in 2008 with the Shi’ite Imam Hassan Qazwini (a close associate of long time Hizballah ‘spiritual leader’ Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah) and there would seem to be a number of questions that some enterprising (and exceedingly courageous) investigative reporter might ask at press conference time.

The Nation of Islam (NOI) is a syncretic new religious movement founded in Detroit, Michigan by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad in July 1930. The Nation of Islam's stated goals are to improve the spiritual, mental, social, and economic condition of African Americans in the United States and all of humanity.[1] Its critics accuse it of being black supremacist[2] and antisemitic.[3][4][5][6]

After Fard's disappearance in June 1934, the Nation of Islam was led by Elijah Muhammad, who established places of worship - called Temples - a school named Muhammad University of Islam, businesses, farms and real estate holdings in the United States and abroad.[7]

The Nation of Islam's most notable leader was Elijah Muhammad. His son Warith Deen Mohammed and senior leader Malcolm X both left the movement to become Sunni Muslims. The current leader is Minister Louis Farrakhan and The Nation of Islam's headquarter Temple, Mosque Maryam (Mosque #2) is located in Chicago, IL. Its official news publication is The Final Call Newspaper. The Nation of Islam does not publish its membership numbers; the core membership of the Nation of Islam is estimated between 20,000 and 50,000, but their following is believed to be larger.[8] Most of the members are in the United States, but there are minority communities in other countries, including Canada, United Kingdom, France, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago.
