LQMT has many patents on liquidmetal, probably the vast majority. Its not just that though. It has patents on injection molding technology - the holy grail.

These could use LiquidMetal or more correctly amorphous metal. I really doubt it though. I think they are just using the term as a marketing term. Why would they spend all that extra money for no return? There is no advantage to using expensive amorphous metal in that type of enclosure that I can see.

There is nothing particularly special about the technology in that LaCie casing - any number of companies can do that - it's just shaped metal.

EB, I'd recommend spending some time looking over the Liquid Metals website. I should give you a god idea what they do and don't do.

The company is not owned by Apple, nor is all their output owned by Apple.
