>>i do know that when i purchased my several jaz drives i was approached by the reseller and asked if i didn't want to purchase several additional wdc drives instead. so, you multiply this question several thousand times over per day and you must conclude that if jaz/zip were not so readily available, these same purchasers would be purchasing wdc or qntm product.<<

Interesting how this statement reminds me of a conversation I had with the PC Techs at my office today. We were discussing different methods for adding storage to one of our servers. The server is used for storing complete disk images for the different types of notebook computers we use. When a notebook changes hands, the techs just copy a fresh image to it from the server. The image includes all the standard software. Each image is somewhere between six and seven hundred megabytes.

Anyway, we were discussing adding SCSI drives of various sizes from 6 to 18 gigabytes, or possibly an expandable drive array. One of the younger guys suggested a Jaz array, which his boss immediately poo poohed. (The server in question already has both Jaz and Zip drives.)

I chimed in and said a Jaz array might make sense. I told them about the Axis Storpoint HD/4, which offers 4 Jaz drives in an array which can be directly attached to the network. It makes a lot of sense for us for a number of reasons.

The boss agreed that it sounded like a good idea, and that's probably the way we'll go. That's three or four more SCSI drives that won't be sold by Quantum or Seagate, and a bunch of Jaz cartridges from Iomega.

All SyQuest products are out of the running because our company has already standardized on Jaz.
