Shorts would have to be very very brave to go against
today's buying volume.

The volume is huge in part because the shorts closed their positions on bads news. Then came SP500-challenged institutional underachievers and bid the stock higher.

David,

The market is so fickle - it looked like a repeat of yesterday and then came the reversal in the p.m. I could hardly believe it. Got very little sleep last night going over and over again in my mind the possible scenarios for today's trading. I felt that today's action was the least likely of all possibles and was prepared for a 4 to 6 point loss at exiting my position. As it was I got out at 32 9/16 with a loss of only 1 7/16, though I held on to all my Dec 37.5c. I too was impressed by the volume. COMS wouldn't be pushed below 31 15/16 - 32...over 12 million shares traded above 34. I almost went short in the morning at 32, however, I just couldn't bring myself to click the mouse to complete the trade - on the long side, COMS has been real good to me this year. Both COMS' 13 vs. 55-VAMA and 3 vs. 22-VAMA are still bullish - it closed right on its 20-DMA...both the 50-DMA and the 200-DMA are sitting at 44.

David: Yes, volume was large. But how much was due to market makers creating a price, and the rest piling in.

Maybe I should of clarified my post: I think todays volume is directly related to option activity. All of which occurred today. Execution of puts, call buying, margin settling, short covering....

I expect most option people wrote calls, shorted stock, and wrote puts. Shorts are brave people, they can always move the market latter, under less volume days.
