Vladimer,

I never said that I was arguing with the sales numbers. I was simply indicating that I am familiar with the switching solutions from Cabletron's competitors and from a functionality and performance viewpoint Cabletron's solution are as good if not better than CSCO, 3COM, and Bays.

I take my hat off to Bay, Cisco, and 3Com's management for out hustling Cabletron's marketing strategy. They have done a better job of putting up the sales numbers. At the same time Cabletron has screwed up over the last few quarters by not leveraging their high-end customer accounts into new opportunities with similar customers. I take one look at Cisco's 5000 series Catalyst switches and compare them in functionality and enhancements with Cabletron's SmartSwitch line and Cabletron has a superior product in my opinion!

I think that: 1) Cabletron will have to continue to make the strategic acquisitions/mergers/partnerships to ensure that all new technologies and features are available to the customers in a timely manner. 2) They are going to have to take whatever fat that exists out of the cost structure to become as competitive as possible. 3) Form a better relationship with Wall Street to control selloffs like they have experienced lately. (Just compare CS to 3Com over last few days!) 4) Cabletron is going to have to market their product superiority better than they have.

IMHO,

Steve
