Yes, Fabrinet is a contract manufacturer, but they are specialized in the optics space. Everyone in the industry uses the, because they have to.They are good, they seem to respect IP and they have scale. (FWIW, I work in the industry and the company I work for uses them too.)

The big electronics contract manufacturers ( Flextronics and Foxconn <gasp> ) do not really compete with them, because the volumes are much lower and the products are much different (optics by nature are analog). So, yes they are in the contracts manufacturing space, but they do have some sort of niche, in which they are the biggest company.

The competition is mostly in-house manufacturing in China or outsource to various Chines outfits and hope that it all works and comes together.

That said, I don't own the stock but I am looking <g>.
