His father had the foresight to buy alcohol and a few other critical things he could buy in quantity for bartering.> LOL.. that reminds me of the story of WC Fields and some of his Movie Star buddies who were supposedly out drinking and dining when FDR announced the war... while everyone was talking all about it and what it all meant they noticed Fields was nowhere to be seen, or in the phone booth or something like that. When he came back and was asked if he had called friends or family about the situation he reportedly said hell no... he thought it would be a long war and had called to liquor store to reserve whatever he could!!
