Herman Wouk wrote a sci-fi story called "The Lomokome Papers." It depicted a superior race that lived on the moon and purged all warfare from their existence. amazon.com

The way they purged war was they had computers simulate casualties, and each side marched an equivalent number of their people into an exterminator.

I saw a similar idea on Star Trek.

My personal take is that such a society would be worse than perpetual warfare, by a large margin.

BECAUSE: It eliminates individual freedom. When your number comes up, you march into the exterminator.
