Price Rite, which is a no frills version of Shop Rite sells for that price. Stop & Shop sells for that price on sale, which I'm sure you have near you in the Boston area. In general, everything in my town is inflated triple of most other places. For example, tomatoes on the vine are $2.99 and up per pound while only .99 a pound in Bridgeport. When I visit my mother and pass through, I'll always stop and stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as chicken. They'll also have Progresso soups or jars of spaghetti sauce for .99 which I buy in bulk as well. The crowd is mostly Hispanic which I think is important for my son to see given the lack of diversity where I live now.

Where I grew up was a melting pot of ethnicities that all insulted each other-- in an All-the Family friendly way, of course -- though it's gotten way more upper middle class of late. Most people around here think of ethnic communities as havens for crime and freak out when they drive through one. That's ridiculous. Of course there are the bad residential sections (projects), but 99% of every town in the US is totally safe no matter who lives there. We just hear about the other 1% and generalize.
