"There are 300M guns in the country, give or take...most folks can buy a gun in less than a day."

That doesn't really sync up with the New York City laws you posted yesterday.

The only possibility I see is for more conservative interpretations of the 2nd amendment, not more liberal ones.
Maybe. I believe I have the right (even though I can choose not to take advantage of it), and that the government has already infringed upon that right. I am very concerned about having rights infringed upon.

You might think the biggest threat to your rights, are the right-wing extremists? They certainly blame left-wingers for threatening their rights and way of life. The fact is the government is the biggest threat to human rights and always has been. Both sides forget that when they try to weild government influence in their favor. There is no doubt about what the original intent of the protection of the 2nd amendment was designed for and that the government has finally managed to circumvent and nullify that intent. Things could swing the other way, who knows.

Scalia: Gun restrictions could be constitutional

By David Jackson, USA TODAY

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said today it's possible that new gun restrictions could be upheld by the high court, but it's hard to say which specific ones.

"It will have to be decided in future cases," Scalia said on Fox News Sunday.

It's also hard to say whether Congress will pass any new gun control measures.

Democrats have proposed new rules in light of the Colorado theater shootings, but leaders of the Republican-run House have vowed to block them; there's also some question as to how hard President Obama might push for new gun laws.

As for the constitutionality of new legislation, Scalia noted that the United States had weapons laws at the time the Founding Fathers wrote and ratified the U.S. Constitution, including the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

He cited one law that banned "a really horrible weapon just to scare people, like a head ax or something."

Scalia also said:

"Obviously, the amendment does not apply to arms that cannot be hand-carried. It's to keep and bear. So, it doesn't apply to cannons. But I suppose there are handheld rocket launchers that can bring down airplanes that will have to be (looked at) ... it will have to be decided."
